Despite of this long story of recession, our school district has managed to keep going and keep their teachers. Adversely, the state demanded budget cuts and carried on to every school districts, and my school district as well. We all feel the budget cuts at the beginning of the year this year and up to now.
So how the teacher teach recently? The teacher still makes use of everything just like in previous years. The teacher has managed to always be dynamic and creative inside the class despite of all budget updates. In my own department, photocopies are now limite which means that we have to be more resourceful this year. Eventually is a good idea. However, having a substitute teacher whenever you're out for whatever reasons is now limited up to 4.5 days. What a great loss to Kelly Services! My heart goes to them. I strongly feel that it is not right since teachers usually have 10-12 days leave of absence in a year. I totally understand that it is because the district is paying a lot to get a substitute teacher but what if an emergency happen? - God forbid.
Yeah, in our case it is hard. Both me and my wife works in the same school district. We love our school and everybody in the school. It's just so hard to keep that 4.5 days because we have a 1 year old baby and turning 5 daughter. All of us got sick lately, there was no choice but either me or my wife has to be out of school and we take turns.
Mr. Waiknis, my principal told me he knew what I am going through. And I learned that his wife is also a teacher working at Fortmill school district and they have a lovely 4 year old boy. I was relieved to know that he also is a family man. The thought of what we've going through lately, makes me wonder of changing job.
Teachers were not only bombarded with issues and responsibilities in school but also at home. These probably were overlooked by some heads of school but is true. In my case, life doesn't stop here. Hang on and move on.
